TEXAS CATTLEDOG
FINALS
NOV. 23, 24, 2002
Stock dog handlers from all parts of Texas and surrounding states
gathered at Abilene, Nov. 23 and 24, 2002 for the Texas Cattle Dog Finals.
The Finals consisted of two go-rounds in the Open, Pro-Novice, and
Nursery. This would culminate the years trials and decide not only the
Finals winners, but also the "Dog of the Year", winners in each class.
The Finals were held in the "Taylor County Expo Center", which was a
fantastic venue for handler and spectator alike.
As we all know how important good healthy cattle are to a successful
trial, our thanks go out to local cattleman, Pat Gully, for supplying us
with an excellent set. They handled well the first day with only a few
refusing guidance from the dog and handler team. Day two was a different
story in the Open class. Times were a bit tough, but a number of Open
handlers got the job done. After a correction in the set up of the course,
the rest of the classes went of well.
Our sincere thanks go out to the city of Abilene, and all who welcomed the
handlers to their town. A special thanks goes to " The Whitten Inn" for
being our Hotel Headquarters, and Banquet site. The rooms were wonderful,
and the food at the Banquet was delicious.
I believe all agreed that Abilene is the place to go if you want to feel
welcome for next years' "Texas Cattle Dog Finals". Carl Larsen
